What's Wrong With Facebook

What's Wrong With Facebook:Facebook is a great one-stop way to keep up with friends (especially more distant ones), share what is going on in your life and so on. Facebook has a good core idea, but other than that, the company seems to have hardly any interest in the actual community of people who use it, what they want, or how they want to interact with the service. Most other social networks (Digg, Reddit, Twitter, even Craigslist) are very sensitive to the community. Most recently the change to make your friends public was a similar breach in the implicit social contract Facebook has with its users.

What can Facebook do to turn this around? Facebook needs to choose what it does and focus on doing that well. I feel like Facebook is simply chasing the moment and trying to do a bit of everything. You can share status updates, but not as easily as on Twitter. Stop changing around the interface/core idea of what Facebook is every 18 months......Read more

Allison DuBois is Bullshit:Yeah, I noticed that there was a spike in traffic related to medium-performance artist Allison Dubois, who is a yeasty, curdled discharge. Most of the searches were "Allison Dubois bullshit."

I always knew that swearing phonetically for four years would eventually land me 18 additional hits.

Anyway, I have posted on bullshitting bullshitter Allison "I am so full of bullshit I have bullshit coming out of my tear ducts" Dubois, or "Senora Bullshit of Bullshitania" as she is known to her friends. And it seems that she said "bullshit" on TV. No, I don't mean talking the total bullshit that she talks constantly when she bullshits bullshittingly with bullshit imaginary dead people (which is nothing but the barest, most absolute and concentrated bullshit you are likely to find, the exploitive shrew). It seems like Allison DuBois (DuBois means, "of, related, or pertaining to bullshit" in French) was on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (which is apparently a show) tonight and said, "Bullshit."I take this data from a site thats why i m not sure about this here is other news Read More

Elizabeth Edwards’ Death

Elizabeth Edwards’ Death:My family doesn’t have much in common with the Edwards family. My parents were mild mannered professors who avoided the spotlight. And though my dad was once head of the German Department, he was never a Senator. Nor, for that matter, did he ever run for President. And sure, there may have been a fight or two along the way, but my parents never separated. There was no highly publicized affair. Or any affair, for that matter.

But tonight, my heart goes out to the Edwards clan for the things my family does have in common with them—the things that all families have in common with them. Love and mortality.

Like Elizabeth Edwards, my father died of cancer. He passed in 2002, just days before Thanksgiving. And also like Elizabeth Edwards, Dad’s doctors advised him shortly before his death that more treatment would not make a bit of difference. My dad still fought valiantly, though. And he was very much part of every single moment that he possibly could be right to the end. Like the evening we made martinis in his hospital room—a no-no for sure, but the nighttime nurse let it slide. He died the next morning in his bed on the 7th-floor.

Every year during the holiday season my thoughts turn to my father even more often than they had in the months prior. And this year was no exception, only my thoughts have also turned to someone else. My sister. She died of cancer in the middle of October. She, too, was told that chemotherapy was no longer an option. Like Elizabeth Edwards, my sister had school-aged children. Her daughter is a senior in high school.

The pain of losing my father and that of losing my sister were similar. Only I felt them in different capacities, once as a son, and this most recent time as a brother. And a dad. It was hard to explain to my daughter. She had never really dealt with death before, except once, and she was a lot younger then. She didn’t know my sister very well, but she cried, nonetheless.

I did, too.

But looking back, in both cases, my family was lucky. In both cases, like the Edwards family, we got a chance to say goodbye. And through those goodbyes, we learned, as painful as it was, that there was much magic in the melancholy, great beauty in the struggle. Which is why I think my dad and sister both fought the way they did. Not for them. But for us. So we could feel that magic and see that beauty. They died with dignity. And they died with love.

No, you’re not familiar with my family. Not like you are the Edwards family, John and Elizabeth and their four children, Cate, Emma, Jack and, of course, Wade, who died in an automobile accident in 1996. The Osbornes have never been on TV. At least not my Osbornes. We never even really watched all that much TV. But we’re a lot like the Edwards family. And we’re a lot like your family, too.

Because it doesn’t matter how big your family is. Or how small. How wealthy it is. Or how poor. How well known or obscure. Every family knows love. And no family can escape mortality.

Tonight, I hope and pray that the Edwards family is in as much peace as possible. And I hope they derive a similar beauty out of Elizabeth’s passing as we did the passing of my dad and my sister.

I also hope they know that there are countless of Americans who are grief stricken alongside of them. Because no matter how dissimilar we all are, everyone knows what love feels like. And none of us live forever.....I take this news from blogs.babble.com

Pearl Harbor Attack,December 7 1941

Pearl Harbor Attack,December 7 1941:I take all this information fron internet media and i reach this result that At 12:55 on Tuesday, aged 69, to a moment of the attack on Pearl Harbor, about 25 people gathered to remember the events in the glittering city of the World War II memorial on Colonel Henry Mucci Memorial Green at the corner of State and wide streets.

“We paused in silence to remember those that paid the price of freedom on the same day,” said Thomas L. Kanasky Jr., a lawyer and former Marine colonel who is president of the Greater Bridgeport Veterans Council, and who organized the ceremony. Veterans in attendance, some who fought in World War II, read the names of the 18 sailors from Connecticut who were killed during the attack, the ship bell rang for each name.

Almost all of those who died from a “date which will live in infamy” are either the Navy or Marine Corps.

The mayor Bill Finch thanked the veterans for all this, what are you doing to save the memories and the commitment of our country to live. ”

He has invited veterans to participate in the ceremony is scheduled on January 20 that will celebrate the 50 th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy “Ask not what your country can do for you” speech, “because he talked about service to our country and Service Above Self. ”

Finch said that “we want people to be committed to its ideals that all of you demonstrate every day.”

After the mayor’s remarks, delivered in a biting wind in December Kanasky flag lowered to half staff. By this time, the collection was increased to 35 as a dinner passersby joined the observance. It ended after the recording of “taps” played over a speakerphone, and Kanasky read the first line of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “Infamy” speech that was delivered to Congress the next day after the attack. Congress passed a formal declaration of war in less than an hour later.

Were not veterans at the ceremony were the survivors of Pearl Harbor. Of the 60,000 servicemen and women who were in or near Honolulu on Dec. 7, 1941, it is believed that only about 3000 are alive today.

Ed Mastrone Bridgeport, however, was a World War II Pacific theater veteran who served in Guam, Saipan and the Philippines.

“I was with a second rescue squadron, and we took off from Clark Air Base in the Philippines,” he said. “It was a good experience, let me put it that way. There was a lot of camaraderie, and as veterans, we stick together no matter what.”

Mastrone as veterans of the issues.

“My job was to work on aircraft that sprayed Agent Orange”, said Allen Dullivan Bridgeport, who was a mechanic aircraft in the Air Force for 20 years, from 1954 to 1975, and within two years of his military career in Vietnam.

“There was a military base not far from our base and we had to do everything to support them,” he said. “We have a lot of blood there.”

7 December 1941, 2,388 Americans were killed and another 1,178 were wounded in the surprise Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor. About half of those who were killed were sailors on the USS Arizona.

The attack was a shocking blow to the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Twenty-one Navy ships were sunk or severely damaged, and 323 U.S. aircraft were destroyed or unairworthy.

Statewide, Governor M. Jodi Rell ordered flags to fly at half staff on Tuesday.

“Annual of the attack continues to inspire a greater sense of understanding and appreciation for those in the armed forces of the United States, who risked their lives to defend this country,” said Rell.

“I urge the citizens of Connecticut to remember and dedicate this day to honor those who so valiantly gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives to defend this great nation.”

Don Meredith

Don:Don Meredith, the former 'Monday Night Football' co-host, has died at the age of 72.

Meredith passed away in Santa Fe, NM of complications from emphysema and a brain hemorrhage he suffered on Sunday. He previously suffered a stroke in 2004.

Meredith was probably unknown to many younger TV viewers, but "Dandy Don" was everywhere in the 1970s and '80s. His trademark while calling games, besides his casual demeanor and humor, was singing 'Turn Out The Lights' when it was obvious that the game was indeed over.
