war horse

Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones, founders of the Handspring Puppet Company in South Africa, created all of the awe-inspiring puppets — led by nine horses — for the Lincoln Center production of the London hit “War Horse.” The play, which tells the story of a boy and his horse during the first World War, is nominated for five Tony Awards, including best play. The two main horses, Joey and Topthorn, are each controlled by three puppeteers, who handle every minute detail — from breathing to tail wagging to ear pricking — with such ease that by the end of the show the audience almost forgets that it is not watching the real thing.
